ConAgra Foods Provides 13 Million Pounds of Nutritious Food to Hungry Kids During the Summer

Major donation coincides with the launch of new Ad Council Campaign to raise awareness of child hunger
Chicago, IL -- August 6, 2002 -- ConAgra Foods, North America's second-largest food company, exceeded its goal of raising nine million pounds of wholesome food to feed hungry children this summer. ConAgra Foods' Feeding Children Better Foundation is also sponsoring new and compelling public service ads (PSAs) about the tough choices low-income families are forced to make between basic everyday expenses that frequently lead to child hunger.
ConAgra Foods' donation of millions of pounds of kid-friendly food from such well-known consumer brands such as Act II, Armour, Butterball, Chef Boyardee, Eckrich, Healthy Choice, Hebrew National, Hunt's , and Peter Pan provides nutritious good-tasting meals for children whose parents are struggling with the tough choices in an effort to make ends meet.
"The parents of 13 million children face very difficult choices and often cannot afford to purchase the basic necessities of life--food, housing, and health care. ConAgra Foods is committed to helping make sure children are fed," said Lynn Phares, president of ConAgra Foods' Feeding Children Better Foundation.
"ConAgra Foods' commitment is an investment in the future. Hunger is a critical issue in the United States and steps such as these will ensure that no child grows up hungry," said Robert Forney, president and chief executive officer of America's Second Harvest.
ConAgra Foods' Feeding Children Better initiative is a multi-year, multi-million-dollar commitment that will open at least 100 Kids Cafes by the end of 2002.
