Chicago, IL -- October 3, 2002 -- "The Road To New Orleans 2003 Motorcycle Ride," the foodservice industry's semi-annual cross country motorcycle fundraiser, has launched an official website announcing plans for next year's ride. The website, www.secondharvest.org/road/index.html features online rider registration, sponsorship capabilities, pictures of past rides, updates and a direct link to America's Second Harvest's home page. Riders within the foodservice industry, as well as outside of the industry, are encouraged to sign up for this event.

The website was created as a direct result of last years highly successful ride, and is the first of many steps taken by America's Second Harvest to help raise visibility of the event within the foodservice industry and motorcyclist community. The new website will serve as the "heart" of the event and centralizes all components into one location for the 2003 ride to New Orleans.

Interested riders can visit the site and not only view images and information from past rides, they can also register at their convenience and pay the registration fee online.

In addition, friends, family members and co-workers will be able to support their "favorite rider" online, as well as make general donations to the event. As always, all donations are tax deductible and company matching is welcome. After a donation is made, sponsors can check the site as the ride progresses to see what is new with the event.

The Road to New Orleans is in its sixth year, and centers around the NAFEM trade show. It is timed to take place August 30th-September 3rd, 2003, and riders will ride from all over the country to raise money for America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest and most comprehensive charitable food distribution system. The first such foodservice industry charity ride, dubbed "The Road to Dallas," centered around the NAFEM/99 Show and raised $50,000 for Second Harvest. The second event raised over $60,000. The goal for this year's ride is $100,000.

"Last year's event went even better than we planned, and we all had a memorable time. The riders did an excellent job fundraising and had a great time doing it. We look forward to seeing all of the same riders again this year, in addition to many more," said Alexa Kinney, event coordinator. "It proved that a lot of competitors can come together when necessary and do something that is so much larger than any single person's effort."

In addition to enjoying a scenic ride and great fun along the way, riders can look forward to a welcoming and awards reception in New Orleans, as well as a celebration dinner.

The event is being supported by industry publications as well as industry riders riding all different brands and styles of motorcycles. To find out more about this ride please visit www.secondharvest.org/road/index.html.
