America's Second Harvest Applauds Campaign to End World Hunger

The Nation's Food Bank Network supports United Against Hunger Awareness Day on September 22.
CHICAGO --- September 22, 2004 --- America's Second Harvest, The Nation's
Food Bank Network, has joined the United Against Hunger Campaign, helping to
raise awareness about the impact of hunger both domestically and
globally.
On Wednesday, September 22, humanitarian organizations,
faith-based groups, corporations, service clubs, schools, and individuals, both
locally and nationally, will unite under a common banner top bring an end to
world hunger.
"Thousands of people die every day from hunger-related diseases," said Robert Forney, President and CEO of America's Second Harvest. "Even in the United States, a country of significant abundance, we are faced with hungry children in communities from coast to coast. It is critical that we take step to inform the public about hunger no matter where it exists, and establish effective ways to feed those most in need all around the world. We congratulate the United Against Hunger Campaign in their efforts to bring greater attention to global hunger."
United Against Hunger is for anyone and everyone with an interest in fighting hunger. Individuals, organizations, schools, religious groups, corporations, and all other groups – whether long involved or new to the cause – are encouraged to participate. Details on participation may be found on their Web site: www.unitedagainsthunger.org
According to United Against Hunger, more than 840 million people in the world are chronically hungry. Over 9 million people die of hunger every year. Hunger is more deadly than AIDS, malaria and TB combined. Every four seconds, someone, somewhere, dies of hunger. Today, 24,000 people will die of hunger; 18,000 of them will be children.
