America's Second Harvest Names Jean Yarvis Jones Senior Policy and Research Counsel

CHICAGO -- March 14, 2005 -- America's Second Harvest – The Nation's Food Bank Network has named Jean Yavis Jones Senior Policy and Research Counsel.

Jones joins America's Second Harvest after a highly successful career at the Congressional Research Service (CRS) of the Library of Congress, where she was the Head of the Agriculture and Food Section and Legislative Specialist on Food and Agriculture Policy.

"Jean's expertise and sound judgment have made a profound impact on legislation of national significance," said Robert Forney, President and CEO of America's Second Harvest. "Her professional integrity and intellectual leadership are greatly admired and she is highly respected by the many members of Congress, Committees, and congressional staff she has provided legislative support to over the years."
 
As a specialist on food and agriculture policy, Jones provided close legislative support to the Congress in the development and passage of over 40 food and nutrition laws and the last five omnibus farm bills.  Early in her career, Jones also worked on legislation relating to child and family issues, including welfare reform, foster care and adoption, Head Start, and child care. She has written more than 200 reports, memoranda, issue briefs, congressional reports and Committee prints for Congress, and currently is working on a book on the history of child nutrition in America.

Jean's background and experience, as well as her reputation for objectivity and extensive knowledge of food and hunger policy is a welcome addition to America's Second Harvest and its Washington, D.C. office.

America's Second Harvest—The Nation's Food Bank Network is the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization with a national Network of more than 200 regional Member food banks and food-rescue programs, serving all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
