Corporations Involvement

Hunger Awareness Day 2007 provides an opportunity for corporations to lead their communities in the fight against hunger in America.  If you already have plans for Hunger Awareness Day, please let us know so we can spread the word about your generosity on this site.

Here are just a few ideas for how your company can participate in Hunger Awareness Day and help raise awareness of the importance of ending hunger nationwide:

Advocate

  • Organize an employee letter writing campaign to communicate the importance of ending hunger in America to federal and state elected officials.  You can also circulate hard copy letters in central locations such as employee cafeterias and break rooms.
  • Write your members of the U.S. House of Representatives and/or U.S. Senators with America's Second Harvest's Hunger Action Center.

Raise Awareness

  • Send an email to all employees on Hunger Awareness Day 2007 with a link to www.secondharvest.org
  • Put an announcement about Hunger Awareness Day on your Website, Intranet, newsletter and any other electronic mediums.
  • Display Hunger Awareness Day 2007 posters and banners in highly visible areas including hallways, windows, break rooms and employee cafeterias.
  • Add a Hunger Awareness Day 2007 tag to existing promotional materials including print, radio and television ads, mailings and product packaging.  Be sure to direct people to http://www.secondharvest.org// to get involved in ending hunger in their communities.

Donate
Circulate a “food bank” around the office on Hunger Awareness Day to collect funds for your local food bank.  Several “banks” could be positioned in high traffic areas.

Sponsor an Event

  • Contact your local food bank and offer to sponsor their Hunger Awareness Day 2007 event.
  • Host a companywide food drive.  Contact your local food bank in advance of Hunger Awareness Day to coordinate collection and drop-off details.

Volunteer

  • Coordinate an employee volunteer day at your local food bank.
  • Pledge your commitment to ending hunger in America by giving each employee a set amount of time off work to volunteer at the local food bank over a year period.  Or, further their incentive by “matching” the time they volunteer outside the office with time off work.
